This is one of the most shocking cases involving an animal that I have ever come across. It occurred in the municipality of Salta, in the north-western part of the country. A couple of teenage girls took it upon themselves to inflict terrible pain towards an innocent, peaceful stray dogs that had done nothing to bother them whatsoever. But the girls, students at the Centro Polivalente de Arte, thought it would be a terrific idea to mess with the dog either way. Luring him with what seemed to be food, little did that poor animal know what would follow next. The food turned out to be fireworks and the pooch’s jaw was completely shattered as soon as the crackers went off. The helpless dog was left full of blood, in the middle of the street. Luckily, some passers-by promptly intervened and called for help. A news video shows how dozens of compassionate people gather around the dog and try to help him. The dog, dubbed Dardo, has since recovery fully (after being successfuly operated on) and has been adopted; he is well looked after and has put all the abuse behind him
Exclusive: Justice for Felipe – thugs put fireworks in his mouth and leave him to die!
Despite the fact that this incident received intense media coverage and numerous outraged citizens demanded justice, the teenage girls responsible for this sick attack have been left off the hook, because they were underage and this had been their first offence.

If there is no justice in one of the most talked about cases in Argentina’s history, then there is truly no hope for animals in this country.

Since this outrageous incident took place, many other similar cases have occurred. For instance, an irresponsible mother from Cordoba placed the family cat in the washing machine and turned it on, in an attempt to entertain her child; in another outrageous incident, a stray dog was pounded over and over with a bottle by a group of thrill-seekers.

All incidents have something in common: the attackers were left off the hook and got away with it.

Argentina does have animal protection laws in place: law no. 14.346 stipulates that harming an animal in any way is an offence punishable with imprisonment between 15 days and one year.

Read more about what this law stipulates here:

But as good as the law sounds in theory, it is almost never applied, which means that such cases are still not seriously taken into consideration by police officers and the justice system.

This petition is not only about the dog in the photo, viciously attacked with fireworks by the girls pictured on the left. It is about all the pets that have been severely mistreated all across Argentina and have not received the justice they deserved. They need a voice right now!

It is a true shame this is happening. Please help me turn things around. Sign this petition and call for tougher animal protection laws in Argentina! We, the undersigned, also urge the government to implement special animal police squads all over the country to ensure that animals are safe, treated humanely and that the law is properly enforced.

The days of people harming animals in Argentina should come to a stop! Join this campaign today if you agree.

Another point of focus for the authorities should be the implementation of policies regarding the use of pyrotehnics. As things stand, there are no regulations in place; they are used freely, without any control or supervision of experts in the field; in this case, the victim was an innocent stray dog, but tomorrow it could be a a child, an old man or a pregnant woman. Pyrotehnics are not a joke and must be handled responsibly and special laws to govern them must also be enforced as soon as possible.
